Database Settlements

A long view from a high elevation looking across a dale over tree tops to a steep-sloping grass pasture with a large man-made circular platform at the top, just below a horizontal dry-stone wall. Above the wall is rough pasture.
A large enclosed curvilinear platform settlement at Whitaside, high above the river ford of Scabba Wath, probably dating to the Late Iron Age. Details in the PDF Settlements 1 (below), record no. 444. Photo Tim Laurie.

In the Settlements Category of the SWAAG database, there are 61 records created between 2011 and 2017, of which 59 were created by our president Tim Laurie.

While a few relate to studies mentioned elsewhere in this web site, the majority are recorded only in the database. The number of them is too large to have saved in one PDF, so they have been divided into two files. See links below:

Settlements 1 category PDF – Here are the first 50 Settlement Category records created in the SWAAG database between 2011 and 2015, all but two of them created by our president Tim Laurie. The entry for the settlement near East Mellwaters Farm, Bowes, County Durham (record 524), is also the subject of an entry in the Geographic category PDF, scroll to record no. 743. And the entries for the settlement at Gammersgill Moor, Coverdale (records 808 and 809), are also the subject of an entry in the Photographic category PDF, scroll to record no. 990.

Settlements 2 category PDF – Here are the remaining 11 Settlement Category records created in the SWAAG database between 2015 and 2017, all created by Tim Laurie.
